The latest hard drive announced by Seagate is a 3.5” drive, which is able to stock 500GB of information on a single platter. Pretty impressive if you take into consideration the fact that a few years ago the industry thought that 100GB/square inch was the natural barier that will not be able to be surpassed.

The new hard drives from Seagate will come in 1 or 2 platter versions, with up to 1 TB maximum capacity. However, these new platters allow Seagate to release a 2TB hard drive easily, and nobody should be surprised when that happens.
