Starting today all registered developers with Apple can plug in the iPhone into iTunes because the iPhone OS 3.1 has just been released for testing.

According to some rumors the hacks that enable tethering are not welcomed to this party and AT&T is the most commented name here.

For the time being devs started their tests on this beta 2 version looking for a notification UI, some true background applications, or who knows… maybe a usable Gmail. Until the tests are finished we can only say that we salute Apple’s new public API for manipulating live video.
